ED @ NU --> ~Full Ride

Just announced by our admissions office today: Anyone admitted through the ED program during the 2011-2012 application cycle will receive $150K merit scholarship over three years. Automatically.

I wonder if this will raise the competition/standards for ED admission. Perhaps gone are the days of sub-3.0 admissions...

Do they have full-ride scholarships outside of the ED program?

I'm still trying to decide if this is a good idea as opposed to what UChicago does with the Rubenstein, for example.

I believe this is now the only merit scholarship.

I might take that back. She said it's our only "merit-only" scholarship. Previously, NU claimed ALL scholarships were "combination merit and need," so they presumably those are still in place.

Yeah, what Johann said was that if you ED and get the $150k, that's all you get, regardless of need or merit. If you get held, then accepted or accepted RD, you get the normal mix of merit and need-based aid. Does this mean that RD money will be a little stingier? *shrug*

Johan's post says it's the only "completely merit based award." "All other awards will be done with a blended consideration of need and merit."

We all know NU is made up of roughly 45% splitters, 45% reverse splitters, and 10% people at or above both medians. Looks like NU wants to secure that 10% upfront so it doesn't get Illinoised.
