Should I update my transcript? Forum

Right now I'm sitting at a 175, 3.4 GPA but it only reflects roughly 3 and a half years of credit. If I update with my final transcript it drops to a 3.21.

The obvious dilemma here is that I do not HAVE to update and doing so would adversely affect my odds at t10 schools, however not updating potentially would be a red flag to an admissions department. I know the standard response would be update, but a .2 drop is pretty huge, especially judging by LSP/LSN.

Opinions?

Little confused. When did you send in the transcript? And when did you graduate? Or did you intend to apply last cycle and didn't, thus the out of date transcript?

Intended to apply last cycle (hence the username

) as a senior in college but wasn't happy with my October 2010 168 and by the time I got my 175 back in January it was too late in my opinion so I held off a year. Submitted my transcript midway through the fall semester so they don't reflect the last year of classes in which I did pretty poorly.

My LSAC GPA reflects 106 credits now and updating it would put it at 136 which is well over the standard 120 to graduate.

I figured that was the situation. If adcomms are as diligent as we expect them to be, I don't think the discrepancy will be overlooked (graduated in 2011, applying in 2012 but transcript ends with Spring 2010 grades) and may be questioned anyway.

Personally, I wouldn't try to skirt the system and by sneaky. You unfortunately did poorly, but I don't think deception is a good strategy here.

Huh? You HAVE to keep that info up to date.

You'll have to send in a final transcript before you matriculate anyway. If the school somehow didn't see this beforehand, they'd see it then, and it would be grounds for retracting the offer of admission.

You will only create problems if you do not update your transcript. Be a man about it and just send it. You earned the grades that you earned, and you have to live with them regardless of what they are. Its pointless to try and hide something that cannot and should not be hidden.

You would have wasted your cycle, app fees, time and would have to explain in a future cycle why you didn't matriculate. Attempting to fool AdComm with a GPA you don't have obviously isn't one of the better reasons for not going to law school the first time. I don't see the benefits of not updating.

I agree with the above posters. You have to update it and you know it. The intentional deception is 1000x worse than the difference you'll get by having a lower GPA.

Edit: Also, sometimes members of ADCOMMS have been known to read these boards, so be careful even asking questions like this. Honesty is always the better option.
