I am working on one of my newly opened applications, and I found this question:

If you have any close relatives who have been students at this university, please provide the following information. (Name, address, degree, etc...)

So, my question is how close is a close relative? Both my mother-in-law and sister-in-law have a bachelor's and master's from this school. Do I mention that?

According to 13 CFR 107.50 [Title 13 -- Business Credit And Assistance Chapter I - Small Business Administration], close relative of an individual means:

(1) A current or former spouse;

(2) A father, mother, guardian, brother, sister, son, daughter; or

(3) A father-in-law, mother-in-law, brother-in-law, sister-in-law, son-in-law, or daughter-in-law.


I couldn't find the law citation I wanted, but the one I gave works as well, so you can tell about your mother-in-law and sister-in-law.

That's incredibly helpful. I don't think it will give me any sort of boost really, but I don't want to not disclose a relationship if I need to.
