LSAC Flex App Issues Thread

I've started working on a few apps and have noticed the following issues:

1) On previewing my PDF app, some of the answers are getting cut off. LSAC technical rep said this was a formatting issue and law schools would get all info.
2) There is no way to upload additional disclosures such as why essays, addendums, etc. LSAC technical rep said to contact school to see if they would accept and how they would like to receive.

Any one else have similar issues and get different/same LSAC responses?

Virginia said to put extra addenda in the personal statement section as a separate document and label appropriately, so thats what I'm going to do for each school that doesnt have a specific section

That's a good call. They see everything as one PDF anyway, so it won't really matter where you upload it.

I think OP's point was that Flex App is not allowing the upload of any of those additional addenda in the personal statement section - when I uploaded my first document, the app immediately jumped me back to home screen saying I've completed that component, and when I tried to re-open that section to upload my additional statements/addenda, my only option to do so requires me to delete my original statement from my app. I called U.Va and they referred me to LSAC. Anyone else manage to get around that Flex App issue?

Just tried doing that and any additional documents I upload under personal statement overwrites the previously existing doc. Are you suggesting including additional disclosures on separate pages inside the personal statement?

Yeah- just put it in the same word document that you upload. But put each addenda on a new page and label appropriately in the header. It will all look the same since they receive one big PDF file.

Thanks, freestallion. How do I change the headers within my document, though? When I go to edit the header on each page, it affects every other page.

FWIW, talked to LSAC Tech Support again and the guy created a couple tickets for the development team regarding the PDF preview cutoffs and lack of ability to upload required docs (C&F disclosure, etc)

I have a feeling they may change it because it's inconvenient right now, but if you want to put all the statements/addenda in one long word doc, you can change the header by doing this:
http://grok.lsu.edu/article.aspx?articleid=4511

You just have to create different sections and each section can have a different header. HTH!

It does not tell us the character limit for the extracurriculars section. When I simply list my ECs, I can save the page. However, when I begin to write the brief explanation of duties, the page will no longer let me save. Anyone else having this issue?

I thought I might post what I've learned so far filling out apps and talking to LSAC.

First, someone mentioned problems filling in extracurricular activities/academic honors. I had a similar problem. I noticed adding quotations and bullets added issues for me at least. I ended up just using "-" as bullets for my descriptions. Not sure if this is extremely helpful; it seemed generally to be pretty buggy.

Second, the employment section has a problem organizing chronologically and instead orders alphabetically. I was told that this is being worked out.

Also, for those of you filling out the Berkeley app, there is an issue with the "Demographics Instructions"/Question 13, wherein the box to check is missing. LSAC was not previously aware of the problem, but confirmed that it was a problem on their end and that they would fix it and notify me when it was fixed.

Hope this helps.

Anyone else getting surprised that apps aren't accepted until 9/15?

I'm filling out the Wisconsin app right now and there is a section on background info, another on employment etc. And then there is an option to attach a resume?

Am I just supposed to attach the resume and then divy it up for those other sections?

Very confused

It seems to me that the 9/15 may in fact be that way it always has been. I doubt they send each individual app to each school. I am sure the schools just get big packets every few weeks during the process. The first bunch probably goes out within a few days of that anyhow and they're giving themselves some time to work out the bugs. They don't want people sending in apps with bugs, then having to re-do or something.

Anyone have the wrong school name on an application for another school? For example, I opened two applications: one to UVA and one to Duke, and I'm currently filling out the one to UVA. But when I went to put in contact information, the question at the bottom says, "Duke can contact me via text message" or something to that effect. What gives?

And for #6, it asks, "Have you applied previously to Duke Law School?" This is all under the big header at the top that says "University of Virginia School of Law."

I had same issue with different schools. Close out all browser and reload app.

Okay, so when they want you to list your academic/honors does anyone know how many characters are allowed because it keeps saying that my response can't be processed.

Would it look bad to just write "Please see resume?"

Change your formatting to this and try again:

XXXXXXX for Excellence in Middle Eastern Affairs Research (contribution to publications and research on the Middle East), NCAA Division 1 Academic All-American 2001, 2002, 2003 All-region, 2003 2nd Team National (academic and athletic achievement), etc. etc.
