How exactly do index numbers work? I am a 4.06/170, and since people with my exact numbers are few and far between, does it make sense for me to look at people from last cycle who had a 4.00/171 since according to LSP, we have the same chance of admissions? Or does the 4.00/171 have an advantage over me at, for example, Harvard because they're in the 25-75 range and I'm just outside it? Thanks!

Yes look at people who are around your GPA and LSAT.

Yes but remember to look at these with respect to schools' medians and quartiles. Looking at someone with a 171 / 4.0 at a school whose median is a 171 won't be as indicative as a 170 / 3.9 (assuming the GPA 75% is below a 3.9).

Also, a 1 point variation in LSAT is much more significant than small changes to GPA. Although no formula exists, a tradeoff of 1 LSAT = .1 GPA point often correlates pretty well with schools indices.

Yes, the 171 will have a slight advantage over you at Harvard. That's not to say no one with your numbers ever gets in, because schools tend to look for applicants who can raise one or both of their medians. You would still be above their GPA median.

Yes, everyone knows Yale's inscrutable. But I'd still apply if I had those numbers.

Really? LSP says I have a 47% chance at Harvard and 52% at Yale... although I agree to the LOL at trying to chance Yale haha

remember that some schools don't really fall into the strict index measuring, like NU, which would take a 171/3.1 over a 169/3.5
