Thought I might start a support group thread for those of us considering EDing this coming cycle.

Do you plan on EDing? Where to? Numbers?

I'm considering ED at Duke, Penn (riskier) and UVA (almost surely not happening, but they do have a 14-day turnaround).

I don't want to give you too much hope, but with a 3.82 and your LSAT I really wouldn't think UVA is a huge stretch. I've been told over a 3.8 and ED puts you in a good position there.

UVA likes people over 3.85.

Tiago I wouldn't ED if I were you. A well constructed app and you could get decent money at CCN or even a full ride to MVP.

law school project you've got a decent shot at NYU RD and a great shot at money from MVP. Only ED if you can't imagine going anywhere else.

I know it's pretty much throwing my ED down the toilet, but I don't think I'd be really happy about paying sticker anywhere else, except Mich. I have gone back and forth on the issue, as Mich and Penn are both within the realm of possibility if I ED'd, but man oh man. Gotta shoot for the dream, knowhaimean?

No. His LSAT and GPA are both below the median, so I think he'll get rejected. But as he said, UVA gets back to you within 2 weeks, so why not throw out an ED app Sep 1, hear back Sep 15, and then ED to another school?

How minor is minor? I got 54k at umich and 60k at duke with one less LSAT point. Combined with the difference in cost of living and related interest that is a close to a 100k difference. Plus I think you have a decent chance at NYU next cycle RD.

Not worth the risk. NYU's my dream school. I'm from the NY-area, and want to live here the rest of my life. And as far as the money goes, I may be coming into a circumstance which somewhat mitigates the debt situation to a similar extent as the scholarships elsewhere would.

Good life decision. Mich doesn't place into NY at all.

Why wait for 3 years? (Plus, I'd rather not live where I'd have to fly back to see my family. It's a minor issue, but it's one that would definitely come up if I did a "pros/cons.")

Your choice obviously but if you got a nice scholarship at Michigan I could see that being a 100k difference. And even if you come into some money, wouldn't it be wiser to invest that than spend it on a degree that will not place much worse?

Meh. I am starting to see your point. If you can and want to, why should anyone tell you not to? And I think NYU does place better than Mich in NY, not on reputation but on proximity and of course self-selection. So you'll be able to make contacts, etc., stuff that isn't impossible at Mich, but it's definitely easier at NYU. I think a lot of us go into this with an anti-debt standpoint and it's hard to shake that sometimes, but if all of that is worth 100k to you, we just have a different view of our finances, which is neither a good nor bad thing. I know it's unlikely, but it's been my top choice for a long time. Here's to hoping.

Didn't read the rest of the thread but 3.85 is the magic number it seems. If OP's willing to pay sticker, ED-ing is probably a good idea. Mostly because their turn-around time is fast enough to allow OP time to ED somewhere else if that fails. To OP, if you can stand Cornell, I'd apply EA there as well, it's non-binding and the application becomes available around August 17th (going by last year).

Especially if I'm not 100% set on biglaw. Which I'm not.

NU. Sub-3.0, current 169 LSAT (retaking in Oct), have WE. I'm fully aware they have a strict LSAT floor of 17X, but I underperformed on the June LSAT so I'm hoping that by the time I apply I'll be a decent candidate for their ED program.

I'll definitely be applying to Cornell EA, but I just hope I don't get screwed with a ridiculously slow decision like some people were last year. I honestly wouldn't mind going to Cornell, but it's just not at the top of my list at the moment (though that could change). Think there's any chance I could snag a small scholly? I'm at one median (168) and I think near their 75th percentile GPA.

This. 3.5/taking the LSAT in Oct. Obviously hoping for 170+

May ED to Penn if I decide that NYU is out of the question and that I'd be dinged at Penn RD. But NYU is the dream school.

Am I correct in thinking that a sub-170 (let's say a 169) with my GPA would knock me out of the t-14?

Assuming a 169, you have small shot at cornell and umich ED. Not a good shot, but a shot.

Good luck, Amelia. I wrote my NU hold essay last year about Doctor Who and they let me in, so I say you have a 98.7% shot.

No way I get a full ride at Penn or Virginia, Entchen did get the Darrow at Michigan with 177/3.5 but that looks like a very unusual case.

What sucks is that I am pretty much auto-in at Columbia or Chicago ED, but LSN for those schools the last couple years is littered with waitlists for RD apps under 3.6. The prestige-whore in me wants to lock one of them in, even though I know it probably isn't the smartest move.
