Lol, this exact situation happened to me as well (with very similar GPA ranges). You'll be fine. A 3.86 is not competitive for HYS, but you're in good shape for CCN. Now that you're back, focus on breaking 170, and you should get into at least one of CCN.

No. 3.86 IS competitive, if your LSAT is up to par.

My understanding is that abroad grades do not factor into LSDAS GPA (unless they appear on your actual UG transcript).

Get one point higher on the LSAT, and you'll be fine.

I got into YLS with a 3.86/177-- all A'/A-s, and one B-. You're competitive, nail the LSAT. Also, YLS really is pretty wholistic. Just make them like you with your personal statements.

stupid study abroad is what brought my gpa down too. how am I supposed to study when I'm traveling? Gah, at least the classes were free since they were under the guise of UG on scholarship. I still got into a top school, though (3.86 GPA), so nail that LSAT!

Perhaps I should rephrase what I mean by "competitive". To me, competitive means you'd have a more than decent chance at getting admitted with a median LSAT score, which wouldn't be the case here. But, of course with a 177 you'd have a good shot.

I think TCR is you should be going all out on the LSAT no matter what, and that now that the grade's on there you should just focus on the present and future, because freaking out about something unchangeable will accomplish nothing. The good news is that a 3.86 is still pretty freaking good.

This is untrue anyhow. My UG transcript shows only a pass for a summer study abroad program I did through another university. I never thought LSAC would need transcripts from that - yep, they did and they will calculate my result into my final GPA. Luckily, it won't effect me. They will also request the results you took in high school for college credit. I had to request a transcript from the local community college I've never even set foot in, because that's how my high school credited the single AP class I used credit for in college to get out of a throw-away intro class. Again, it won't effect me, but I would have been disappointed if it had.

OP- I would be contacting that professor. No university would have a prof without an email addy. Even the Iraqi profs I work with have email addresses. I am sure you can get ahold of them and I would want an explanation for that grade if you believe it was unjustified. It may be that there is a perfectly acceptable explanation, but it could also have been a clerical error. I once had a professor who I knew well (thankfully) and she had a term paper due just before grades came in. I turned my paper in 3 weeks before the deadline. She ended up losing it and when she went to fill out grades she almost gave me a C since I had a 0 for my final paper. Luckily, I knew her so she called me up and asked why I had chosen not to turn in the final paper, since it would be totally out-of-character. Once we realized what had happened, she easily found my paper stuck in with her lecture notes from the day I turned it in, graded it, and all was well. If I were you, I would not let this slide without some follow-up. There can be clerical or other errors, and you certainly shouldn't accept an unjustified punishment.
