If so, how significant of a difference is, for example a 3.93 between a 3.96?

I highly doubt that a .03 difference would have any effect whatsoever.

What about a .09 difference?

Maybe in a tiebreaker situation or something. I feel like a 3.5 vs 3.59 would be seen as less of a big deal than a 3.61 vs. 3.7 even though the difference is the same. But to be honest this is all just speculation. Why are you even wondering about this?

Hundredth decimal points matter when you come close to the median. 3.93 vs 3.96 is above median at every school, so it won't really matter.

Yea I just looked at OPs profile and noticed a 3.9 in the gpa section. That gpa is golden just about everywhere.

I'm currently in summer school, and depending on my final grades, my GPA could either increase or decrease by up to 0.02 points, assuming I don't bomb a class. I'm graduating after the summer, so this will be my final GPA. Really I was just wondering.

This. It's all about where you stand relative to a schools "GPA floor", 25th, median, and 75th. So it could matter or it could not depending on the specific GPAs and the specific schools you're applying to.

Agreed.

To use OP's numbers as an example, a 3.93 will look no different than a 3.96 pretty much anywhere. On the other hand, at a school like UVa there is a pretty substantial difference between a 3.75 and 3.79.
