Top Law Schools

I know University of South Carolina does this (I don't actually go there, just have friends who do). So, if at most schools you would get a B- (2.67) for getting a grade of ~80, or an A- (3.67) for ~90, you would instead get a 3.0 or a 4.0, respectively. It seems like doing this would give an even more beneficial GPA boost than schools giving out A+'s (which is pretty rare in itself). They also give out .5's for getting +'s, so B+ would be 3.5, but I know LSAC would still view this as a 3.33.

Of course my friends say that this is because USC is "harder" than my undergrad (in reality they're extremely comparable), which just makes this even more frustrating.

Has anyone heard of any other schools doing this? Seems ridiculous... (from my point of view, I'm sure I would think it was great if I went there).

Brown University doesn't give out pluses or minuses (or anything below a C), but I don't know of any other school that gives out only pluses.

Also, the University of South Carolina and the word "hard" (or any of its variations) don't belong in the same sentence. The average student there scored in the 500s on each SAT section, so the level of competition there is much lower than at the so-called "grade-inflated" Ivies.

There's no such thing as competition in the humanities or social sciences...

I'm always surprised that people who graduated college still think that grades should line up on a 0-100 scale with 90-100 = A, 80=90 B.

What the fuck kind of tests do you take where you are supposed to get 100?

Social Sciences. Most students in my economics classes get above 90s on most exams, with about one in ten earning a 100.

I've decided that they don't earn their science name. It's just Social Studies from now on.

Not true in my econ classes. Though I can't even begin to describe how little studying most students do at my UG.

UF did that my first two years, but added in minuses in Summer 09 I believe. Prior to that it was the same as USC, just pluses and non-pluses.

My first college, Chatham University, gave pluses and minuses (with the exception of A+s, which don't exist at Chatham). However, at the college I transferred to (Slippery Rock University) doesn't use/give the plus/minus system. Mildly annoying, haha.

UMD puts minuses on the transcript but does not factor them into GPA (aka B- = 3.0). I'm sure LSAC does include them but the UG GPA's are slightly inflated from this school.

Rutgers is like that as well. No minuses, but I think they have pluses (no A+ though).

my UG doesn't do pluses or minuses either... which is good since i have a ton of A-s
