Summer school to raise GPA worth it?

I don't NEED summer school but I'm graduating in 2 quarters.
I was thinking about taking 2 bs classes (guaranteed A).

My Gpa would go up from a 3.08 to a 3.12
Would paying $1000 for classes be worth it in the long run?

Nah. I can't imagine that small of a change in GPA is really going to make a significant difference in the admissions process.

How many years of undergrad left?
If you want a decent school, it could be useful as an ongoing campaign to raise your GPA.
If you're graduating, like, next year: not so much.

Do you have the time to do more classes at a community college? If so, you can get more of a bump out of your $1000.

I graduate next year WINTER quarter.

Yeah i'd rather take it at CC. But since those credits aren't transferable to my college, would they still count for my LSAC gpa?
If so, I'm signing up for as many classes as I can for $1000!

Yep, they count if you take the classes before graduating from your degree-granting university. My crap grades in CC classes dropped my LSDAS GPA by .08  .

I was wondering the same thing. Taking an extra summer would raise my gpa by like .02

Almost definitely not worth it. Take a fraction of that time and money and invest it into studying for the LSAT.

definitely not worth it. $1000 = 6 hours of 1 on 1 lsat tutoring

WTF? I have a really hard time believing that is actually the hourly rate of LSAT tutors. Maybe I need to get in the business...

If you have the money then do it. A higher GPA would increase your chances of admission at every school you apply. And you need every point you can get.

Yea that would slightly increase your chances and make you slightly more competitive. If the $1,000 doesn't mean anything to you do it. Besides, you don't want a zero in the hundredths place of your GPA, it just looks bad.

If you really wanted to raise your GPA, you could delay graduation and take classes in the spring and summer quarters (after you should have finished) and apply the following fall. I generally advocate taking time off before going to law school, but don't think this is the most efficient use of your money (unless the cost of tuition doesn't matter).

No. At this point, OP's GPA is probably well below the 25th percentiles of most schools. A slightly higher but still very low GPA won't help them. Instead of wasting time on classes, they need to focus on the LSAT and put that $1,000 to better use (read: on almost anything else).

In case others are reading this thread in the future, I think the one case where slightly raising a low GPA would really help would be a sub-3.0 -> 3.0+ bump.

Though I did not plan this, (in fact I didn't even remember I took the CC class until years after graduation) it took me from a 3.49 to 3.51. I was shocked to see a higher GPA after the calculation and really lucked out. Even though they are such close numbers, 3.51 just looks better.

I would agree that if it bumps you into the next tenths place it could possibly be worth it. I mean off the bat it says 3.4x or 3.5x.

my bad, i think i overestimated cost of 1-on-1 prep but it should be at least $100 an hour if i remember correctly. okay and .02 is not worth it for $100, unless you're going from a 3.98-4.00.
