Top Law Schools

Hi guys, just wanted to get some other opinions. I just graduated undergrad last week and am currently accepted to michigan with 15k/year. My stats are 169 and 3.91 from a public in nyc. My personal statement and recommendations are solid, but my work experience could use a boost. Is it worth it to take off a year, retake the lsat, get some work experience, and repeat my cycle?

Oh, im also on the waitlist at Penn and NYU but neither are looking too good.

If I re-take the lsat im pretty confident I can score at least a 172.

What is your career goal? Any debt from undergrad? If you currently have a job offer, and that is something you are interested in, take it. Otherwise, reevaluate your short term/long term goals.

Your GPA is really good, and it seems like a waste considering you only get 15K from Michigan.

Retaking with that high of a score is risky, so I'll lean towards staying at Mich until I see the answer to this post:

But work experience is always helpful, and a 173+ could get you into HYS if that's what you want (of course, getting a score that high is the hard part)

If this is true, and you will do something productive in the meantime, then taking some time off sounds like a great idea that could open new opportunities.

My career goals are a bit up in the air. I'm thinking of pursuing a JD/MBA and am going to take the gmats this summer.

I do not have a job lined up as of yet but I can most likely get an entry level job at a small law firm though. I dont know if that type of work experience will help my resume or just look like a page filler.

I did have an upward grade trend with a 4.0 my junior and senior year of college. (i dont know if that really means anything extra)

I don't know what the legal job market is like for ppl with JD/MBA (e.g. whether work experiences are must), so I am not commenting on that. But when do you plan to retake LSAT if you plan to take the GMAT this summer? And do you think you can improve 3+ pts on the LSAT?

My suggestion is do some job search and apply for available ones. If you can find something, and get hired, then you have your option. Right now, it's all just speculative thinking (no offense).

Taking a year off from school sometimes means more than just gaining work experience. A year off can give you a break from a school atmosphere, help you detress after four years of school, and if you are working during that year, allow you to gain some new perspectives in life as well.

15k a year at Mich is solid. Although, if you are confident that you will score 172+ on a retake, or you want HYS, then a retake may be something to consider.
The downside of retaking and scoring the same, or slightly worse, could really suck though.
