How do you people think having an LSAT at the median for a particular school effects your application and admissions chances?
For the adcomms is it a positive? a negative? neutral?

Auto admit, full scholy, natch.

I would imagine that having an LSAT at the median of the last year's class is probably a slight negative since most schools are trying to raise their medians. If the applications drop to such a level that schools cannot continue to raise their medians then it will probably be a neutral or slight positive.

ETA: And the reason I say slight is because schools are always trying to raise their numbers so they may not actually be able to accurately judge what they need when numbers are so borderline.

perhaps I should rephrase:

if it is accepted that your application is a sum of separate parts ( GPA, LSAT, softs etc), then how does having one such component literally at the MEDIAN for those accepted affect an application, if at all?

will they dock someone because they are ONLY at the median ( and not above it)? or is it a positive thing as they're viewing an application?

Schools take people with above median GPAs and below median LSATs all the time.

is it the same things once your AT the median? If someone were to be admitted to a school with a median LSAT would it be more likely to be despite the score, or, in part, because of it?

Theoretically, yes. But most schools weigh LSAT>Grades>>>Softs, so all things being equal, I would prefer to have the median GPA + 75% LSAT than median LSAT and 75% GPA.

Hitting median LSAT is a huge win at most schools. At some it's basically autoadmit.

Though like BK says, you have to watch for moving medians, but I doubt many schools will be able to keep moving up. The number of applicants is back down again. Most schools just struggle to keep their last median.

DF has TCR. I was admitted to NYU with a 172 (last cycle's median) and a below 25% GPA, but only at the very end of the cycle. There were a few of us in that group with similar splits. Now that the WL has started moving I am seeing even more people in the splitter category being accepted to top schools in what appears to be attempts to maintain last year's LSAT medians.

My year wasn't too bad if you struck early before the admit deans realized what was going on. But god help you if you applied late.

I was at median. Admitted only to TTTT with no scholarship. Ended up top 2% and offered full ride. Don't give up just because you blew the LSAT.
