156 and 3.9 gpa chances?
Hello,
I was wondering what kind of a school i could get into with a 3.9 gpa and a 156 on the lsat (based on past experiences or friends with similar stats, etc)?
I'm not looking to get into yale or anything, just a late tier 1 or a top tier 2?
Thanks

You're going to hear a lot of people tell you to retake, and you really oughta listen to them. A 10 point improvement will put you easily into the T25 range, a 15 point increase and you're golden for much of the T14... If you can hit a 173, you really COULD be considering Yale.
But... if you really don't feel a retake is worth your time, you're out of most of the T1. Lower T2 is where you'll be heading with a 156

I don't usually jump on the "retake" bandwagon, but for the sake of everything holy, don't waste that fantastic GPA by not retaking/reapplying. The LSAT is such a learnable test, you can absolutely do better, and DRASTICALLY increase your chances of getting into a solid school and getting $$$ from others.

I doubt those numbers can get you into a Tier 1, but maybe a Tier 2. As others have said, however, you should RETAKE. Don't waste that wonderful GPA. You probably need a 160+ for a Tier 1, so you are close, just a few more points; and if you get a 165+, you are looking at big scholarships from many Tier 1 schools, so it's totally worth it to retake.

Based on your numbers, your highest "Admit" is Hawaii.
Raise your LSAT just 5 points, it jumps up to UNC.
Another 5? You're an "Admit" at Southern California, and a "Strong Consider" at Cornell.

I have to agree with everyone here. Don't waste that nice GPA for a sub-165 LSAT score.

Even if you're not interested in going to an elite school, with a successful retake (5 pt increase or higher) you could be raking in tons of scholly money at many schools. Your future self will thank you while your future peers are paying off hundreds or tens of thousands in loans.

Listen to this post. The effort to retake literally is worth up to 200k dollars.minnbills wrote:Even if you're not interested in going to an elite school, with a successful retake (5 pt increase or higher) you could be raking in tons of scholly money at many schools. Imagine you do 500 hours of extra prep to raise your score. You're netting 400 dollars an hour...

If you're going to law school, a retake will be the easiest money you will ever make.

Most people don't want to retake because they want to go to school right away. You have the luxury of having the September test and the October test (maybe the June test, if registration is still open) between you and when applications need to be turned in. You might as well take it. I think the places you will be admitted are fairly clear, nothing better than ~80 so weak T2s. You don't want to go to weak T2s with no $ when you have a shot at avoiding it.

Tell you what OP, I'll swap you my 3.2x and you can go TTT and we'll both be happy.
ETA: Seriously, retake. You should be slapped for not raising your LSAT. My diagonstic LSAT was a 151. After reading the Powerscore logical reasoning and logic games bibles, my practice test scores rose to ~167.
