Good or bad idea?

I am wait listed at 3 schools right now. Would it be a good or bad idea to send an email to the admissions office of all 3 schools telling them about each school I am wait listed at and then telling them that I will attend whichever school pulls me off their wait list first and withdraw from the rest?

Sounds like a bad idea to me. Just send normal LOCIs, etc. There is no need to disclose that much information.

bad idea. expressing continued interest is one thing... coming off as completely desperate is another.

I just thought this might give a school an incentive to pick me because they would know that I will definitely attend if they let me in.

Definitely tell them you would attend if admitted (if you actually would). Do NOT tell them anything about other schools that have waitlisted you.

It would give them all a good laugh. And my bet is you'd get back three rejects as thanks.

@ risktaker
if you are unable to get off those waitlists; do you have a preference between McGeorge or Seatle Univ ?

I am leaning towards Seattle right now if I do not get off any of my wait lists.

Now that the U.S. government has signed that $100 billion defense contract with Boeing for the next several years, there will be plenty of direct and residual job growth in the NW region, so attending Seattle Law isn't a bad idea at all. Good luck in 1L.

Not true. Sent a similar, non-desperate-sounding letter, got in off the waitlist at GULC as a transfer prospect.

Sending a letter to a school that has waitlisted you, giving them any relevant updates and saying, "I would absolutely attend if admitted," is one thing. (Sending that same letter to three schools; not a good idea).
Sending a letter to three schools that have waitlisted you (thereby indicating their already lukewarm interest),
naming the other schools, and saying, "First one to grab my hot bod gets to go home with me, boys!" is laughable. If you got admitted
despite that, then you got lucky. Maybe nobody saw the letter, or they remembered you gave them a good laugh when they were picking the last few names out of a hat.
The point is, it's fine to communicate your sincere interest to schools and to send appropriate letters that might tip the balance for you when they're running down the waitlist. But have some common sense about it.

I agree with all of this.
