well, i got the email and 148.. pretty dissapointed. i'm just looking for some honest advice as to whether i should hold off on submitting any applications and retake the lsat in december, or whether i should submit apps and not retake, or whether i should submit apps and retake and forward the retaken score?

i thought i would have scored in the mid-150 range because that is what most of my pre-test results showed but i guess the nervousness and distractions and my own personal ability weren't there.

any help is much appreciated. thanks.

I think that drop is pretty normal, ALL my friends went down between 7-4 points from their practice tests. I missed 8 in the first section because of nerves! I guess it is really a personal choice but you have to really think about how the nerves will affect you the second time around. Will it really be that much easier?

you're right. it is a personal choice but i'm not sure what to do. applying with a 148 would probably place me low on a admission index, which is what i'm worried about. decisions decisions...

dano, don't feel too badly...I didn't fare much better and saw a major drop from where I had been practicing. I'm in the exact same boat, but I'm thinking what I'm going to do is first, get past the feeling that someone just slammed my gut with a mallet, then I'm going to talk to my pre-law advisor and also call some of the law schools to see about my chances on a competitive level (rather than rely on scales posted online). I figure all of that may ultimately help me to decide where to go from here, because I'm sure not where I thought I'd be.

Hey Dano,
I'm in the exact same boat as you.... I got a 149 today and I thought that I would have done much better seeing as I was consistantly scoring higher on the practice tests.

The way I see it, we should retake the exam. With a 149, it seems fairly difficult to get into any school with a semi-respectable program. I used the LSAC online calculator to get a ballpark estimate of my gpa and my score and it pretty much showed me what I had feared: there were only a handful of third rate schools even worth applying to. With that in mind, I'm convinced that I am going to retake the test in Decemeber.

Besides, right now our chances of getting in are dismal at best, so why not? I think it's gonna be all about working my ass off in the next month and a half.

Just my thoughts.

Hi, I had a similar 148 score when i took the June LSAT. I took the powerscore full time course and got my score up to a 155 this second time around. So it might be worth it to take it in december, since a lot of schools accept the higher score now.

Hi everyone,

My thoughts are with all of you--I didn't do as well as hoped, either. I'm so depressed...I had been scoring in the 157-159 range on my practice tests, and I received my score of 151 today. I have a 3.84 ugpa and 2 grad degrees, but none of the schools I'm looking at (which are primarily regional) look like a possibility with that score.

You must take it again. You have the potential to get in the mid 150's, if not greater if you study more. Do 6 more practice tests at least between now and December If you take it again and the nerves get to you again, write an addendum I suppose. You should retake it though, even the difference between a 149 and a 153 is huge!

It seems like about 5 points is the average decrease between practice scores and the real thing... that's crazy. I think a huge key in doing well on the LSAT is overcoming nerves (which I unfortunately was not able to do the first time around).

I think you should retake the difference between say a 155 and a 149 is monumental, that increase in score would open up doors for probably 50-100 more schools.

GPA: 3.6/LSAT: 140

I got a horrible 140. I hope this makes everyone feel better.

I got a 140 partly because I freaked out during the test, and because I did not have a solid strategy for unlocking the games. I also kept staring at my watch while reading the questions after the proctor announced the five-minute warning, causing me to guess the last six questions on both logical reasoning sections. I missed every guessed question. For the logic games, I missed all but five.

I about fell to the ground after seeing my score in my e-mail, it hurt. For my practice tests, I scored no lower than a 150. I am taking the test again in December so that I can pick myself back up. Test master’s weekend course I am hoping will arm me with some good strategies. Death to the LSAT.

I feel a bit better to see that the LSAT drop happened to more people than just myself. I was scoring in the low 160's on my practice tests (average was around 163, high was a 169) and then was shocked to get a 152 on the real LSAT.

I'm on the same boat--I scored a 152---Im trying to decide whether I'll improve enough by december-but i'll wait to see that. ANyway are any of you still applying to some schools with your 1st scores or are you waiting until december if you are planning on retaking it?

Hi...just got my score too..152 (not much better)...I as well dropped 6 whole points from my average on the dozens of practice tests I took and as I'm sure can imagine am struggling with your same questions. I decided to go ahead and apply..I suggest you do too if you think you might have a chance, because who knows? If you don't get in...try for it again next year after you take the LSAT again. That's my plan. I'm trying to be positive...

I scored a 138 in December and a 151 in February. I took 16 practice tests in that month time-frame and went up 13 points! I'm planning on taking it again next fall, with hopes of going up 4 to 5 points.

If I can go up 13 points, anybody can!

Agreed. If you score less than 155, you should retake. I don't care if you are willing (or wanting) to go to a tier 4 law school, you should strive for a higher LSAT just for the sake of getting scholarship money. While this horse has been killed off, beaten, revived, killed off again, and beaten several times over on this board, you should NEVER pay sticker for a law school ranked below tier 2 (I would even say below tier 1).

If you are not willing to retake the LSAT because you don't want to or can't handle it, you should NOT go to law school! The LSAT is a cake walk compared to the BAR exam and the number of hours you will have to devote to studying for a law school exam.

If you can practice a lot, and get above a 160.. I think every single admissions official across the spectrum will ignore/forgive the 148.. even without an addendum
