How important is Orientation? Can I miss it?

So, schools starts August 15th.
Orientation is the 10th-12th.
I'm planning on being on a houseboat with friends from college on beautiful lake shasta until August 13th ish. Thoughts?
In other words, is it dumb to move to school two days (or less) before it starts?
Note: I will be attending UCLA, and as a former UCLA undergrad, I already know the area, LA, how long of a drive it is, etc. I don't feel like I need to get "adjusted" to Westwood. But will I be missing out on important information? I can leave the houseboat trip early, but if I leave THAT early (like August 9th) I might as well not even go.
