My cycle has been less than stellar and I'm retaking the LSAT in June. I've been accepted to a safety school with scholly I do not really want to go to and my deposit is due Friday. I hope to do well enough in June to get off the waitlist at another school.

However, if I improve my lsat score by 8 or 9 points (which is entirely possible in my case because I didn't study enough the first time) I will withdraw my apps entirely and apply again for 2012.

If I put down a deposit, and do extremely well, will schools "blacklist" me if I withdraw all my apps and apply again next year? I'd like to put down the deposit in case the circumstances occur that I both can't get a better score or get off the waitlist after trying.

I know getting off a waitlist after 1st deposit is relatively common and not really frowned upon. However if I withdraw from everywhere and don't defer after my deposit, is it frowned upon at this point?

No, they will not.

Why put down a deposit at all if you really don't want to go to this school? Why not just wait out the waitlists, and/or retake and reapply? Why waste your money?

I'd like to do it as a hedge if I cannot improve my LSAT or get off the waitlist. But yes you're right, I do not plan to actually go.

Okay, let me rephrase that. I will go only as a last resort if all else fails.

OP is saying that he/she will attend the school if he/she doesn't improve on the LSAT.

It can be decent plan, depending on what the school is.

Don't go, even as a last resort. If you don't improve in June, retake again in October. It's not worth it to go to a school where you don't want to be -- either because this is not an area in which you'd like to practice or because of its rank.

I know several applicants who have made deposits but still are unsure of their plans until after the June LSAT. OP, in my opinion, you are thinking correctly.

Both. If I do a few points better (I have a range in mind) then I will just be trying to get off the waitlist.

If I do a few more points better than that, I will not go to any school this year even if I get off the waitlist. I will reapply for more money next year and to better schools as well for fall 2012.
