Loyola v Depaul v Kent

Post by rachel3r » Sat Apr 09, 2011 4:46 pm

Here are my offers
Loyola- $10,000 with 3.0 and $6,000 guaranteed
Depaul- $20,000 with 3.2
Kent- $20,000 with 3.25 or $10,000 with 3.0 OR $12,000 guaranteed

So none of these schools are sticking out to me and I have to make a decision by Friday as my seat deposits are due.
I have a PhD in a science field (Immunology) and am looking to go into IP to pay off the debt until I can go into public policy but that will probably change by the time I finish. Getting out with $120,000 in debt seems daunting, and that is presuming I keep the scholarships offered. Another thought running through my head is to wait a year, apply early (I applied after the March deadline for most schools) and see if I get better $ offers or better schools, but I really dont want to put this off another year as I am firmly into adulthood and need to move forward.

So, what do you guys think, one of these schools over the other or wait?

Kent has good IP but D/L have better prestige among lawyers in chicago with L > D.

Retake/reapply or wait though if youre not in a hurry

IIT Chicago-Kent. Great IP program. Loyola and Depaul may be slightly more prestigious, but I'm not so sure that they have the edge in this particular field. On a side note about your debt, I believe there are LRAP programs at each of the schools you listed and the federal IBR program could help as well. If you make six figures they obviously won't provide much assistance, and you wont need it, but if you get in over your head they can be a safety net.
