Top Law Schools

My mother and father both attented Seton Hall University as undergrads. Additionally, my father attended law school at Seton Hall. Would this give me a significant advantage (if any at all) when applying to Seton Hall law school?

Fine. Some people on here will tell you that it does nothing. Others will tell you it may provide a slight boost. Ultimately, don't count on it to help.

Totally gives you an edge. I heard you don't even have to take the LSAT in order to get in if you're dad got in there.

FWIW, my father graduated from WUSTL, and I was just waitlisted today. I'd say it won't give you too much of an advantage if your numbers aren't up to par.

Conventional Wisdom is that unless your father has a building/grant/professorship named after him, then chances are it ain't gonna help. But like they said, a well-trained German Shepherd could probably at least make the waitlist at Seton Hall (URM?) so I wouldn't even worry about it.

Unless they can pick up a phone, call the school, and get someone important on the line just by dropping your last name, it's probably not going to add much.

However, it's certainly not going to hurt at all, so don't pass over that box.

yeah you picked the wrong forum for that. Most people on here would prefer to belittle you, show that they are message board witty, or give you non advice rather than try to answer any question you have. If I were you I'd ask the admissions office. It can't hurt to call and ask them a general question about legacy and whether it's factored into admission. The answer they give you would be more credited than anything from TLS and you don't even have to give them your name. Hopefully that helps.

Without knowing the rest of your story (read: your numbers) its impossible for anyone to tell you whether or not being a legacy will help.

If you're a 2.5 145, your dad going there is not going to help you. If you are borderline, I would sell the shit out of the legacy and make sure to include it in your PS. (Don't focus your PS around it, but subtly mention at the end perhaps)
