Gathered from TLS/LSN mining (2005-2009):

Harvard:
Number of applicants waitlisted and retook: 63
Number accepted from this retake group (received a higher score): 8 (13%)
Number of applicants waitlisted without a retake: 432
Number accepted from non-retake group: 14 (3.2%)

I didn't do Stanford or Yale cause I got lazy. But there you go.

I think that might be a little misleading. You haven't (and probably can't) control for the other parameters. Maybe those who retook and got in had better overall applications and they retook simply because they were dearly set on harvard. I think its probably a long shot, but if you have time to study and think you could definitely do better than I don't see why not.

I think it is a smarter choice to retake and apply early....but it could make a difference I guess.

OKAY - I was trolling. I didn't think that you would actually have believed that I went and did all that work. I guess this is a lesson to not trust everything you read on this forum.
