Top Law Schools

Currently I am serving as a Peace Corps volunteer. I have been here for almost a year now and while the experiance of living abroad and learning a new language has been great, I am still not doing much work wise. I am starting to feel like I am wasting my time now and am considering the idea of early terminating. This will be a last option. I am still fighting to find projects and will consider changing sites before early termination but I would still like to get everyone´s opionion of if early termination will affect the way law schools review my applications. I will explain the circumstances of my situation but I just wanted to know what everyone thought.

if you haven't applied to law school yet, i would just spend the extra time just studying hard for the lsat and owning the test. you get an awesome soft with the PC and increase your potential to get an amazing score on the lsat. can't beat that imo.

If you really want to go to law school, stick it out and bust your ass studying for the LSAT everyday. Then reap the benefits when you get back.

I would strongly suggest transferring to a different site before you terminate early. A friend of mine who was in the PC switched sites part way through and had two vastly different experiences, despite both sites being in the same country. If you still don't feel fulfilled even after switching, and you feel like you could write a strong addendum to explain it without it sounding like you're just making excuses, then I think you should be ok. It's apparently really common for people to leave the program early. You just don't want to give adcomms the impression that you can't follow through on commitment or bail in the face of adversity. Early termination has a number of negative aspects, including not being able to refer to yourself as an RPCV in the future and, I believe, losing any federal hiring preference, which you might very well want down the road, especially if you go into law. Make sure you understand what you are doing, and if your country directors aren't completely full of shit, talk to them as well. The earlier poster who suggested looking into a site change made an excellent suggestion. Mostly, make sure that this isn't a temporary feeling and that you won't regret early termination. Many PCVs have the feeling you describe of not accomplishing as much as they like at this point. Good luck to you.

Edit: To actually answer your question, I doubt that early separation would seriously hurt your chances in LS admissions. Sorry for the digression.
