Dean's Certificate List

Why don't we try to get a running list of places that need a Dean's Certificate? I'll try to update a list as people put this down, because obviously getting a Dean's Cert appears to deter some people from applying, and it's helpful to know ahead of time who requires it.

A Dean's Certification is basically a form you have the Dean of Students, registrar, or some other official with access to your college records fill out. It asks simple question about if you are currently in good standing with the school, if you got in trouble while attending, if you had any lapses in your studies, etc.

Required:
Boston University
Brooklyn
Campbell Law School
Cardozo (only if have academic or disciplinary sanctions)
Columbia (If accepted / disciplinary problems)
Connecticut
Cornell
Duke (If accepted / disciplinary problems)
Georgetown (only for transfer/visiting students)
Harvard (after accepted if choose to attend or if have academic or disciplinary sanctions.)
Howard
University of Memphis
New York University (after accepted if choose to attend or if have academic or disciplinary sanctions.)
U Penn (after accepted if choose to attend)
University of Richmond
Stanford
Suffolk University
Wake Forest (after accepted if choose to attend)
University of Washington
Washington and Lee

I'm not sure I can adequately explain that one yet. Anyone else want to try to tackle that question?

Edit: Thanks Rhit.

Columbia and NYU require a letter from the dean explaining any disciplinary actions IF you answer "Yes" to the relevant question on the application.

Just found out Duke also requires one before attendance if you've been disciplined. Was thinking about applying since I got the fee waiver, but now I might not since I'd have to go back to my undergrad school and ask them to write ANOTHER letter.

Stupid underage drinking.

The LSD thread wasn't entirely up to date, but I read through and tried to update accordingly for the most recent cycle. Some of the schools outside the T14 and not mentioned in this thread may not require them for this cycle. Please keep updating if you have come across schools requiring Dean's Certs. Thanks!

I definitely didn't send one to Cornell- but the way it looked was on the form was only if you wanted a Rec from Dean.

I should email them and ask about that.

I can confirm that Cornell requires a Dean's Cert for an application to go complete.

Just wanted to give this a bump, because I had no idea that I had to submit one to Brooklyn until last week.

bumping for new cycle.

I just called and Boston University no longer requires one to go complete.

Stanford, Brooklyn law and cornell still do though regardless of whether or not you've ever been disciplined.

I applied and got an e-mail saying my app went complete. I sent in no cert, nor did I see a requirement to.

Yeah, I never saw anything from W&L that said I had to submit a Dean's cert.

Just to clarify, you do not have to send dean's form with your application to Boston University...you get it after you are accepted.

All schools require a Dean's Certificate to matriculate. What you're thinking about is school that ask for one prior to *acceptance*. Just to clarify.
