Late to apply - Should I still do so?

Definitely wait. Take that year off and go do something interesting. Law school will still be there later. Once you matriculate, you can't turn back to do a lot of stuff you want to do.
Also, if you find something substantive to do for the year, it will help your application (Peacecorps, Teach for America, etc)
