I thought about posting this yesterday on the "Ohio State 2011" thread, but it seemed mean. I live in Ohio, and while OSU dominates the state in job placement, it's LRAP is nearly non-existent. Sticker isn't a viable option there imo.

Eh, I counted up the S.A positions in Columbus and I found no more than 60. One of the biggest firms in the city had a total of 4 S.A's. I can't imagine Cleveland is much better.

it's not the debt, it's the failure to attempt to make any payment.

The guy has a job though. There must be thousands of others in the same situation, this does seem rather arbitrary.

Plus he has some pretty hefty credit debt that he's not making, on top of loan debt...

Even the minimum payment on 16.5k in credit card debt is going to be through the roof. I feel bad for the guy but with a kid taking out 150k for Ohio State is insane. I mean, I would get rejected or wait listed by OSU, but even if I got in there is no way I would pay sticker.

Paying $170,000k for OSU should be an auto fail of C&F.

yay i love the sense of entitlement the author of the ATL article has. i wish i saw more of it...oh no wait...
yeah! he wants to be PD, so why should he bother sacrificing his dreams in order to pay off massive amounts of debt he irresponsibly borrowed from other ppl? that would be absurd! if he has to choose to take other ppl's money and not repay it vs. what his needs and goals are (esp. since he landed himself in this position), then of course it should be a 'me-first' mentality! pft working a job that you wouldnt like in order to meet your obligations -- what a crazy idea; thats no way to raise a daughter.
/sarcasm

The ATL writer is a bit heavy-handed, but I do agree it's a bit shady to tell the guy "he's working part-time now so he can get full-time legal work once he passes the bar, we're going to punish him for doing that instead of getting full-time work now by preventing him from passing the bar".
It's not like he wasn't trying to work full-time at all.

And you don't have to go to tOSU to get a PD gig in this state.

Seems like there are hundreds in his situation who are able to pass the C&F. What gives?

I think he should sue the state bar. If he had the right connection, it could work

What's his argument exactly? That the bar can't C&F fail someone for unpaid debts?
Good luck.

One could argue that the bar is further exacerbating the problem, since the debts were for law school. I think if it got in front of the right people, you would get a favorable ruling. It was just a thought. Not gonna say its a great idea.

The ruling came from the Ohio Supreme Court. Haven't done admin law yet, but can you sue over the result of an admin/licensing issue that was already resolved by the highest state court?

If I write a letter telling them how disgusting I think this is (in a respectful manner), do you think I'd get dinged at my C&F?

How many months behind are you on your credit card payments?

His argument would be that this ding is arbitrary given the large number of people in similar situations that aren't getting dinged. Of course, that whole not making any payments at all won't help is case.

I don't have any.
I wonder how many of his stupid fuck credit card companies took bailout money, only to do this to their cardholders.

Well he's not getting dinged for his debt total, he's getting dinged cause he went 18 months and hasn't made a payment yet, and stopped paying a 16k credit card bill in 2008. That's not really arbitrary imo.

Mad because people have to pay back money they borrow?

And also mentioned filing for Chap 13 but did not follow up. I think he is being dinged as a deadbeat, not as a debter. "Character" and "Fitness".

The banks are paying back the bailout money BTW. Unlike many of the card holders. TARP is a loan program.
Our nation is built and ran on debt, but you are supposed to pay it back.
