Why did UVA just give me a fee waiver?
2.7 gpa, 170 LSAT. My LSAT isn't even 75th percentile, and my GPA is an automatic rejection. Why would they give me a fee waiver today? What are their motives?

There have been a lot of late fee waivers recently... perhaps schools are trying to round up more applicants to reject in order to boost the appearance of selectivity.

I also got a fee waiver from them today too, even though I am right around their 25th percentiles. I would be lucky to get waitlisted, honestly.

I got one today, too. 3.69, 169. I think it is so that I will apply, they will reject me, and they will look selective by turning down someone with my numbers. This allows them to admit URMs with below 25th percentile numbers.

Replied back that they can pay my 12 dollar lsac fee if they are so impressed with me. Sort of sad the tactics that a prestigious school has to use in order to remain prestigious.

This is hilarious! I think in the last 2 days I've received about 5 fee waivers....from schools I would never apply to, naturally. No t14s though....oh wait, probably because i applied to almost all of them already. I was wondering what the hell was up.

I just got one as well and it kind of makes me angry. Not so much that a school is trying to get me to apply only to reject me and increase their selectivity, but that they would assume that I would apply so late.

NYU and Northwestern is also guilty of this along with rest of the T14.
They are increasingly growing more shameless.

Yeah, I have a lot of fee waivers from schools I have never heard of. What is starting to piss me off is yesterday I received a waiver from UCLA and USC and today from UVA. That's great, but the schools I am looking at are Cornell, Texas, and Vandy. I'm getting waivers to schools equivalent to where I am applying, but not to the ones I am actually applying to.paulinaporizkova wrote:This is hilarious! I am definitely applying to USC and UCLA with the waivers. If I get accepted to both, I think I may can convince my parents to let me visit. I've never been to LA, but would love to go.

You might want to try soliciting fee waivers. We have similar numbers, and I solicited one from Georgetown. Duke sent me one as well... Also, since you're in the Southeast, you might want to think about applying to Alabama. They've been giving out money like crazy, and it would give you leverage to negotiate with UGA. WashU also supposedly gives out money to people with our numbers, and they gave me a waiver. You might want to try there as well.Pricer wrote:I am definitely applying to USC and UCLA with the waivers. If I get accepted to both, I think I may can convince my parents to let me visit. I just got a fee waiver from UVA as well. Is it possible that the glass is half full instead of half empty. Maybe we have a decent shot. What do you think?

I got one from UVa and Penn today. My GPA is well above the 75th percentile, but LSAt is below 25th. But as we all know, GPA doesn't matter in the law school world. Not going to waste my time on those apps.

I wasn't planning to apply to either and have no intentions of going to either, but if my parents think I want to go, I may can swing a visit.HopefulFish wrote:lol...Pricer wrote:I am definitely applying to USC and UCLA with the waivers. Re: Why did UVA just give me a fee waiver?
Does anyone think that this wave of waivers simply represents the schools attempt to get higher ranking points by rejecting all of us outliers? Is there any truth to this theory?

Re: Why did UVA just give me a fee waiver?
FWIW, last year I wasn't even going to apply to UVA because LSP gave me a "weak consider." I only applied after I got a fee waiver, and got in. And as if that wasn't enough, they ended up being over-enrolled and offered me a decent amount of money to wait a year to go. So, it's not entirely just for their benefit.

Thanks for the response and congrats. With your great LSAT how were you just a weak consider?
