Yield question...

I've heard some people on here say that yield is important in a law school's ranking.
But I don't see yield (or something similar) in the USNWR's ranking methodology?
Am I blind bra? Am I stupid?

I think it's called selectivity.

Ok... but yield itself isn't involved in the methodology, acceptance rate is. Unless I'm missing something. Or unless you mean it influences their peer assessment.

Well a waitlist doesn't count as an acceptance (obviously) so if a school waitlists a candidate based on the fact that they're unlikely to attend, they cut a number out of the numerator (x/6000 accepted). If that person can show they would really consider going, they would add one to both the numerator and denominator of attending/accepted.

Acceptance Rate (.025) The combined proportion of applicants to both the full-time and part-time J.D. program who were accepted for the 2009 entering class.
They have an incentive to reduce the number of acceptances so ideally everyone they gave an acceptance to would matriculate. It's easier to pad this by waitlisting a lot and then picking as you go to get the GPA/LSAT medians you want.

I wonder if WL=>Accept counts the same as Accept for USNWR, I think it probably does.

I think so, otherwise they could just as easily waitlist EVERYONE, and then turn around acceptances to whoever they wanted.

I doubt that would go over will with applicants.

True, but some schools have proven to like "gaming" the rankings... LOOKING AT YOU UVA
