I am from an Indian university. Our grades are computed as follows
91-100 Ex 10.0
90-81 A+ 9.0
80-71 A 8.0
70-61 B+ 7.0
60-51 B 6.0
50-41 C 5.0
40-31 D 4.0 (fail)
<31 F 0.0

Courses have different credits 1.0 or 0.5.

GPA = (Sum of (Grade * credit))/ (Total Credits)

How does the American 4.0 grading system work?

Oh, I believe you're right, actually.

International GPA for grades obtained in study abroad probably do not matter. But my entire under-grad is at an international institution. So I am sure they would be interested in analyzing my performance.

Here is the thing, it will certainly be considered to some extent, probably as a soft factor, but definitely not in the way that American GPAs are. Law Schools' median GPAs are completely unaffected by international GPAs, so they don't have as much incentive to take them into consideration.

An addendum highlighting your stellar academic performance would be a good idea. An addendum proving that your performance on standardized tests does not accurately reflect your ability to do well in law school would be an even better idea. To pursue the later option, you would need to attach evidence of other poor standardized test performances - an SAT for example - and then discuss your high GPA.
