Hey all - would appreciate some advice on this

I have an alumni interview over lunch (1 on 1) - anyone have any experience with this? Do I offer to pay?

Pay for what? A recommendation, a little wheel greasing w/ the adcomm? What are you asking here?

OP - Is this part of the recruitment/application process or did you reach out to him/her to set it up?

I've never been through an alumnus lunch, but I've been through a handful of lunch interviews in my career. Assuming the same protocol, I do the following: I always reach for my wallet, try to reach for the check to pay for it, but every single time, the other party protests stronger and after a polite and faux-surprised "oh, thank you", I let them.

On a related note - Order something that is not messy and easy to eat. I always avoid long pasta noodles and usually go for something like soup and salad - small, measurable bites that will be easy to respond to questions if there's something in your mouth when they ask. I usually avoid hearty, large meals like steaks.

Good advice. Just be prepared for the alum to actually say "Why, how nice of you."

Someone lacks the ability to recognize humor, or sarcasm, or something. If that post made you cuss and say "christ I'm exhausted", I can only imagine what your life must be like otherwise. Also, try removing your panties from your vagina. This used to make an ex g/f of mine cranky. Maybe it'll help you too.

OP - why don't you put up a poll? See if other people thought smears approached any level of humor in that response.

What kind of position is it for? If you are getting lunch with a partner at a firm, then there is no way you will even have the opportunity to pay. These guys say yes to meeting knowing they are going to pay, especially for a lunch. I did this a lot before law school, if you wanna know how I went about things for firms just pm me.

Oh it's just for a law school - an alumnus from the school is interviewing me over breakfast. As it is tomorrow, I doubt a PM would be timely : ) thanks though.
