Is the "common information" portion of your application sent to the law school, or is it just used as an aid for the applicant to fill out the application?

not sent, it is an aid

It helps filling it on for stuff like your name but when it comes to the other stuff a lot of the time it gets entered in wrong to certain apps and you spend more time fixing it than you would had you just left it blank and filled in as it came up on the app.
