Masters or work full-time?

Currently I have a full-time job in social services that I enjoy, but I am not fond of the area I am doing it in. I will be applying to law school in the fall (to enter Fall 2012). I can either complete a MSW in the intervening year (which requires me to complete a full-time internship) or I can work for another year (but I'm not making enough money to save anything substantial).
What should I do TLS?

LOL, yes. But I don't know? Do whatever you think will be the most fulfilling? I don't know if law schools will look at either option as better than the other...

Work. You will at least be able to save something, and you'll have more material for your personal statement.

can you do both? Is the Master Degree in something that you can augment with a JD degree, and will it help you later down the line? If so, then do it. if not, save the money that you would spend on the program and get a jerrrrrrrb

How much debt does the Masters generate?

It would be a one year program so: Elite (top 5): $5,000 max. Non-elite: $3,000 max. Both numbers include COL.

Do you have UG loans you could avoid paying off if you do the masters? Would the masters be of any use to whatever kind of law you want to do?

Yes (part of the motivation) and no respectively.

Work and pay off the loans. Dont add to your debt if you can help it.
Just my 2 cents.

I'm inclined to say do the masters then. I'm prepared to do the exact same thing next year. If you are on good enough terms with your employers to get a letter of recommendation from them at this point and if you can come up with a good reason for getting the masters if asked in an interview, then it is probably an easier to spend a year before what will be 3 very tough years in law school.
Collective TLS advice probably says go with the job though.
