170 lsat, 2.69 ls gpa (Temple University poli sci major)
first semester was pretty good grade wise, then up and down for three years, then a semester with all failures, took two years off, finished strong last semester with 3.7 gpa in 19 credits to graduate.
(no real excuse for bad marks other than I did not care at all, bored, not challenged, wanted life experience, etc.)
Graduated January 2010. Worked jobs in food industry.
I probably will not get great recommendations from professors, and my resume is not interesting (shame high school isn't included).
So, experts, I would greatly appreciate some advice. I plan to have all of my applications sent out by December 13th for Fall 2011 entering class.
I am hoping I can consider Temple University somewhat of a safety school, but I am unsure. Also, I am considering higher ranked programs such as Wash. St Louis, Minnesota, Emory, Washington and Lee, etc.
What schools should I be considering? Are there any schools that would aso consider giving me money?
Thanks.

that GPA is rough. probably out from all the specific schools you mentioned with the exception of temple (and this is hardly a safety imo). are you URM?

i disagree about being out of all of those. i think he has a shot at all the schools he mentioned, over 50 percent at all but WUSTL.

You should be in at Emory. Not sure about the others.

173 and a 2.5 GPA though my situation is a little different. I have 200 credit hours basically went to school for 3 years f'd them all up left joined the Marine Corps then went back much later. My last 90 + credit hours are a 3.8+ and I had a 4.0 in my major, but with that being said I've received acceptances from W&L and American already waiting on still on the others ranked higher. My concern for you would be applying later in the cycle possible you can afford the year off and have all your stuff together to submit applications on 1 Sept or 1 Oct when they start accepting them? Certainly the earlier you are the more spots they have the more open to taking a chance the schools are it seems both from what I've heard from other students as well as deans.

Either way good luck to you.

OP: It will be interesting to see your results. My opinion is that merit money may be hard to get as law schools might view you as a risky admit due to your low GPA.
