Can't believe I am asking this! College warning - disclose?

Post by JJDancer » Thu Dec 02, 2010 4:59 pm

Cornell's app asks if you have been "Warned"
I don't think my circumstances count for this/warrant an addendum but I want to be sure
EDITED - once I recieved an email from Student Judicial Services
I just spoke to the SJS and they said that upon graduation (I have already graduated) my record was expunged and they will tell anyone who asks (LS, the Bar) that I have "no disciplinary record and any disciplinary and/or administrative record I had has been expunged per the University's policies."

I was never formally charged with a violation, no hearing, NO sanctions. But for applications that ask about warnings - does this count??

Sorry if this is a petty issue!

Well, it sounds pretty harmless. Let's put it this way: why wouldn't you disclose this if the app asks you to?

The worst thing that could happen if you don't put it on your app is that Cornell somehow finds out about it and rejects you. You are thrown into a state of maddening depression, and ironically, develop a drinking problem. As you wander the dirty, needle-littered streets of Los Angeles, you finally collapse one day in a dark alley. As you breathe your last breath, your kidney now rock hard from drug use, you scream, "AH! IF ONLY! IF ONLY I HAD BEEN OVERLY CAUTIOUS ON MY CORNELL APPLICATION!"

The worst thing that could happen to you if you do put it on your app is that some adcom chuckles to his/herself and gets on reading the rest of the stuff on your app that matters.

Finally...call Cornell and ask! :) They know better than anyone here, that's for sure.

That was kind of an awesome question

In all seriousness though, I agree with NZA. I'd put it on there, but I probably wouldn't think twice about it becoming any kind of an issue.

since you got a written note from the school, disclose it and forget about it.

I know it won't be an issue lol
I'm more concerned about having to get Dean Certs (time) and them not saying anything because well, there is no record for them to see. And this holding up my app getting under review.

USC (which also has the same wording+dean cert requirement) chuckled and said "Warned" means if you were on the brink of being any of the things mentioned "suspended, placed on probation, expelled" etc. So I have nothing to worry about.

Ok, great.
