Is it ok if my personal statement runs too long? The school I am applying to states it must be up to 3 pages, double spaced, 12 font, but I can't cut it under 3 3/4 pagesunless I remove a lot of important information. Will they discard my application if I make it longer than their requirement?

In Microsoft word, click spacing, then widow orphan control. Should save you space.

I've never heard of a widow orphan control, have no idea what it is and don't think my Microsoft has that.
This is the exact wording of the instructions:
"The personal statement should be
no more than three pages in length, typewritten, 12 point font, and double-spaced."
Funny I feel I can't change the font or the double spacing but feel like it should be ok to add another page. Will this be acceptable?

Definitely shorten it to 3 pages.

If it says three pages, they mean three pages. Do you have anyone who could read it over for you, figure out what you could cut?

Shorten it to three pages. You can always make it more efficient, more powerful. Good attorneys are able to make their point clear, quickly. Post it in the PS forum and let people tear it to shreds.

Thanks everyone (I didn't even know there's a PS section, this forum rocks wish I had found it sooner). I am happy to say that I miraculously just chopped it down to 3 pages!! I had to take out some good things but at the end I really do think it flows better! Thanks for your opinions. I needed a little kick there.

One legitimate option is to cut it down as much as you can and then adjust margins. (0.5 inch at the least)
