NYU Scholarship essays: Are they due with the application?

I am done with my NYU app, but I haven't done the scholarship essays yet. I want to apply for them, but I don't know if they will qualify if I write them after I submit my completed application. Does anyone have any info on this? I really want to get my app in ASAP, and I plan on writing the scholarship apps as soon as I finish the rest of my apps (this weekend, I needed a paycheck for the fees)

Send in your app. The scholarship essays are due by Jan. 1st. This is what a woman in the admissions office over there told me.
