Berkeley Visa Question

So I'm a canadian student applying to Berkeley and the app is asking me what type of visa I expect to hold. Which I assume is "student". It is also asking me for the date issued. What should I put? the start of school? august 2011. Can anyone help me?

I'm assuming you'll be coming on F-1 status? I would contact Berkeley's international student's office to ask about the date.

For students it's always F1 (unless you're already in the US on another visa). You kind of have to get in and enroll before they send you an I20 with which you could actually get one. I wonder why they'd ask you such a stupid question.

Yeah, the school itself issues the I-20, which requires your enrollment. Definitely doesn't make sense.
