i apologize if this is in the wrong forum

but

what are those of you who don't have jobs now and who are planning on attending law school in the fall of 2011 planning on doing until then?! i'm finding it's virtually impossible to find someone who will take me for less than a year!

oy. i've indicated that in my cover letters. i am such a fail. i just thought i would be saving the both of us (employer and applicant) time if that wasn't what they wanted since it would likely come up during the interview.

i'm really looking for anything int'l relations, public policy, social justice related (very hard to find anything that is not an internship in those fields) but the more realistic and abundant openings are paralegal positions but i feel like even if tehy don't explicitly state it in their job posting, they want someone for at least 1-2 years (preferably 2).

but hmm i guess i'll just go with the flow and say im not sure when i want to attend law skl but then suppose i get hired and i have to leave earlier than they anticipated...am I burning bridges?

possibly. but consider the pros and cons. the only con for lying is the moral dilemma. but $$ > morality.

okay, i'm kidding, (kind of). but a job's a job, regardless of how you obtained it.

I was working for a political campaign and now that election season is over, Im out of a job. What sucks is that if we had won I wouldve been in a good position to be a staff assistant for him in DC. Now, nothing. Haha.

Its only been 2 weeks though and I have savings, but Id like a job because i need something to do.

Jesus Lord, I'm balancing panic attacks of whether to defer a year and bank all income or just sell my life. Y'all better count your lucky stars that you don't have a mortgage and dependents that the government doesn't recognize. I'd kill for the dilemma of "McDonald's" or reading "Getting to Maybe" over the next few months. I don't want to have to bar tend again during 1L!

oh damn, that sucks.

but yeah i totally feel u on really needing something to do now. if none of the stuff i interviewed at or applied to last week turns up i think i might have to eventually resort to acting shady about when I'll have to leave (i.e. at the end of summer for law school). i hope it doesnt come to that though... im one of those people who can't even tell a white lie

Im totally glad I dont have HUGE financial obligations, but I do have to pay some stuff.

I have student loans, credit cards, I have to buy car insurance next month, food, etc etc. I need to make at least $650 a month to cover my loans and bills.

We oldsters weighed these "annoyances" before making these decisions. Just remember, today, and throughout your life, there's always someone is worse shape than you (and me).

6 months teaching English abroad, mostly so I can brush up on my Spanish and be able to say I'm fluent.

I don't know how I can find a real job for 7 months (plus I might be going out of the country for a month in between..(AND PAYING MY LOANS HOW? I DON'T KNOW lol)

when you post your resume, it's only open to employers, right? and generally safe??

Sorry for the 2 week late response. Yeah, I'm pretty sure on Monster your info is only visible to employers. I would NOT post your resume on Craigslist, however. You can always just respond directly to individual job listings instead of posting your resume if that makes you feel more comfortable. Use your discretion (don't include your address on resume, etc.) and you'll be fine. Good luck!

Anyone with an employer-level account can look at it on Monster, etc. Not sure what you mean by "safe," but if you're scared of putting your resume on a job board, OCI should be fun.

Depressing thread.

I finish school in 2 weeks. I need a job. I must suck at interviews because I had several 50-75k job prospects, but I couldn't capitalize on it. I am hoping to find something decent ($10 + an hour). I really need a car.

I thought about posting a thread on this exact topic. I wanted a "real" job but given the current economy and the fact that we are in a weird position (have a degree, but not wanting a career until we go back to school in 9 months) puts us at a major disadvantage. I am about to just work at target for 8/hr. My goal is to make as much money while living at home to keep my debt from law school as low as possible. I was originally upset with the idea of only making 8.00/hr, but then I realized that interest is still high and after a few years it will be pretty high. So I no longer think of just a flat minimum wage job as crappy, I look at it as making my future (4 years from now and on) more successful with each dollar I don't have to spend and finance on loans.

If you're talking about interest rates, they're pretty much as low as they can go right now. The Fed is trying to push real rates lower (which is making Republicans and the Chinese government mad), but they might or might not be able actually do that - quantitative easing isn't entirely straightforward.

The flipside of them pushing down interest rates by generating inflation is your current dollars will be worth less. You mostly want inflation however, since you're about to take out 200k in debt.

But forget about getting a job, I'd spend then next few months reading about economics.
