3.48/164---safeties

2 yrs WE
Above average softs (multilingual, overseas WE etc etc but nothing insane)
I AM RETAKING in December and putting a hold on my top tier of schools...was PTing 168-172 consistently, perfectly timed, taking them in the AM starting at 9pm with an extra section acting as an experimental, and I have never had any stress related folding in 6-8 standardized tests I have taken, literally screwed up the last two games horribly and dropped from a 168/169 to a 164, so I am expecting a 168-169 minimum, 171 max
But I need some safeties, as it says above
NOT at all stuck on BigLaw, interested in clerkships (but this requires the new LSAT score) and PI/non-profit work. Have connections to midsized law firms in the NYC/NJ area, at least enough to get an interview outside of OCI
Would like to work Boston, DC, NYC, Philly, Northern NJ---willing to put some years in in a city in the midwest like Chicago and then make my way back, no interest in the left coast except maybe SF or Portland
My list for apps
UPenn
UMich
NWestern
GULC
GWU
BU
BC
Fordham
All of the above will have a hold till my Dec LSAT
American?
Rutgers-Newark (instate) Camden (not sure??)
Temple (fee waiver)
Seton Hall (fee waiver)
Anything else on the lower end, especially midwest feeding into Chicago?
Got waivers to UIowa and UI-Indianapolis...not sure if I could stand a small midwestern city for 3 years...

For the cities you want, I'd be extremely careful about going to any of your safeties except maybe Nova or Temple. They're not that safe for getting you a job. Maybe I'd consider Rutgers if it was insanely cheap.

Rutgers is instate---80k worth of debt is worth it even if I'm working as a public defender
Life isn't safe for getting a job, oddly enough. Plus I got a fee waiver at Dozo and I'm not sure it is worth it over Rutgers-Newark
Also, why Nova...
Nova>Rutgers-Camden?
Also Rutgers-Newark versus Dozo/Brooklyn, money not an issue?

Temple > Villanova (ridiculously expensive and stingy with $$$) > Rutgers-Camden

Make sure the PD office is hiring first. They may not be. Budget issues.
Nova is decent in PA if you can go for cheap, but agree with Heavenwood above.
By going to Rutgers for insanely cheap, I basically mean free or close to it.
Carbozo and BLS have terrible employment prospects. At least at Rutgers you'd have the opportunity to network in Jersey. At the other two, your COL is insanely high, and NY is saturated with people from prestigious schools.
"Life isn't safe for getting a job, oddly enough." - This is dumb.

I've been lurking for a while, and I know your theories, rad law. Please spare me, I am asking for relative strengths, not a commentary on law school in general. If you think Rutgers tuition instate is not worth it for someone who actually wants to be a lawyer, good for you (if you knew much about NJ, you would know R-NW NEVER gives full scholarships)
Again, Dozo/Brooklyn vs Rutgers-Newark...cost no issue. Are they equal? Close?

Both have poor prospects ITE. I would guess Rutgers-Newark is a better option (especially since Cardozo feeds directly into an over-saturated and highly sought-after market), but I know little about legal prospects in North Jersey.

Then don't come on message boards asking for advice. Not worth talking about relative strengths when there are barely any to speak of.

You're asking the wrong question. Want to try to push your luck in Jersey or push your luck in NY? Pick one. There's your answer.

Thanks Rad Law. You are such an enlightening person. I now will not go to law school, on the advice of someone on the internet.

So, to anyone else, preferably people from the NYC/NJ area
Dozo/Brooklyn v Rutgers-Newark v Seton Hall
American's prospects in general, largely PI related
Temple (out of state) v Rutgers Camden (in state)

But you will go on the advice of other similar internet folk?
I think your problem was coming on the internet in the first place.

Going to Dozo/Brooklyn is stupid unless on a full ride. You're competing with Columbia/NYU for NYC along with Fordham and perhaps Cornell.
I have no clue on Rutgers or American or Temple.

Yes, because my entire decision will be based on what is posted on the thread, and the reason I posted was not all all for a few extra perspectives including those of the hiring partners and local ADA's I already know. You made your point, please don't cover my entire thread with a back and forth where you try to convince me to save myself from awful T2 hell.
Any real responses, especially in reference to Camden's government strengths v Newark's private sector strengths v American's PI concentration v Seton Hall/Dozo/Brooklyn or other local private schools
Also, Iowa/Illinois/other midwestern school's chances, strengths in Chicago, and ability to declare residency?

And many people from T25ish institutions.

Thanks---Dozo/Brooklyn was really not on my radar, but they are relatively well talked about in smaller firms in NYC (if you graduate high up though)---the scholarship policies though make me think that even with money they aren't worth it

Please, with all due respect, leave the thread. You made your point. Ciao, till next time.
Anyone else with advice?

Alright Florida, if you want to keep wasting this thread with a back and forth, go ahead, keeps it up at the top for me and someone who actually knows something about the Northeast might pop up.

I'm from Philly, actually, and my Dad is a managing partner at a local Midlaw (I just go to school in the 'Burgh). I can't comment on North Jersey, but I can tell you that for Philadelphia, outside of Penn and the T14, Temple > Villanova > Rutgers-Camden > Drexel. If you have strong ties to the area, going to a strong school in a neighboring region (BU or GW, for instance) would also work, but if you're set on a job in Philly, those schools aren't worth sticker.
I was reluctant to give you advice about North Jersey because I'm not from there and wouldn't want to potentially steer you wrong. I can tell you that in this economy, a Rutgers-Camden grad is infinitely more likely to find work in Philly than a Rutgers-Newark or Seton Hall grad is in NYC.
