Boss wants to call his alma mater on my behalf

So, my supervisor is really psyched that I'm applying to the school where he got his J.D. (a T-14). He wrote me an LOR, but he also wants to call the admissions office and tell them how great I am. He was the head of a fundraising committee for them a while back and apparently was successful at it, so he thinks this will bump my chances. (I should note, though, that I don't anticipate difficulty getting into this school anyway. It would be cool if it got me more money, but I don't see why it would.)
My question is, could this action hurt me? He is a good guy, but a little bit goofy. I don't think he would say anything that would hurt my chances, but could just making the call turn them off? I do not want the adcomms to think I pushed him to do this, or had anything to do with it. My boss is planning to call next week, so I should tell him soon if I'd rather that he didn't. Any thoughts on whether this could be harmful to my application?
