This recom, how valuable?

Recom. from Prof. who has retired/left the college- how valuable is it? I graduated from college some time back. She's the only prof who could write a flying recom for me. And she left
Shall I ask her, or have a mediocre recom from Prof. who's still there?

I dont see why not. They want one from somebody who knows you well. She still was a prof too, not a janitor there or anything...
