I'm looking at LSN, and I can't really tell what the softs are but it appeared that those who applied super early vs those who applied a bit later (lets say from Dec to Jan) had very different results. Does it make a big difference or does it only help a little bit?

Yes. Also, yes. Since they do rolling admissions, each admit letter reduces their available seats by one, making the admissions criteria that much stricter.

You are competing against fewer people while more seats are available, so you do the math.

There's no math if there's no numbers. I did not ask whether it would help or not, but rather if it would help a lot, or very little.

If you don't have the numbers you can apply the earliest possible but it still won't help you.

Applying early helps a little. Applying late hurts a lot.

I'm looking at some schools where I am at the median for LSAT and above 75% for GPA. However, less weight is given to GPA so I guess I'm not sure if all of this is dumb wishful thinking. Ah well I guess I'll apply anyways.

Then that would make you an obvious candidate for admission. I guess I'm having trouble understanding why (or maybe what) you're asking. Earlier is better, period. How much better varies from school to school, but November applicants will virtually always have an easier time than December or January applicants. By January, schools have offers out for the great majority of their seats, so they can only afford to extend additional offers to exceptional candidates. Others, who might have been admitted in November, will probably be waitlisted or simply denied. Schools are competing for applicants too, so they prefer to get their classes locked down earlier rather than later.
