Reporting Expunged Criminal Charges

I have a friend who has been arrested and convicted a bunch of times, but the majority of his charges were recently expunged (5 years after the fact). He told me that he spoke to his lawyers and that they advised him NOT to report the expunged charges to law schools, as they will be unable to reveal them anyway. Anyone have input on this?

Pretty sure "your friend" should still tell schools about it.

If "your friend" decides not to disclose, please let us know how "your friend" does with their cycle and the C&F.

Haha i swear it isn't me but really is a friend---i'm just soliciting advice before i discuss it with him... He's an ivy leaguer with a 3.85 and probably a 168-172 LSAT... but he has maybe 8 criminal charges, 6 of which are expunged. Either way he has to report 2 of them, but undeniably a rap sheet of 8 would be far worse... it seems his lawyers are right in that legally the law schools wont be able to find the charges, but i know some apps ask about expunged charges...

It's not the law schools that will eventually be the problem. If it really is a friend then you should direct that person to TLS so he can decide for himself and to lawyers that deal with C&F.

And if they ask about expunged charges and they aren't there and then it comes up on the C&F (because even if the charge is expunged, there's probably still an arrest record or such), your buddy will have blown 150k for a degree he can't use, since he'll never pass the bar.

That's a good point---Does anyone know anything about C&F standards for New York?

You can contact the bar association for NY and they'll have a real answer instead of a hypothetical answer. However, I'm pretty sure that if the fucking application EXPLICITLY ASKS for expunged shit and it is not reported that you could get C&F pwnd. And you would deserve it.

Oh, I mean, your friend.
