Volunteer work?

I had my professor read my personal statement a couple of days ago. She mentioned that if I wanted a real chance of getting into law school I needed to do more volunteer work. I've only done about half of year of volunteer work at a cat rescue organization. I do, however, have a work experience. She is a history professor though and she's only worked in admissions for history graduate programs. I figured you guys would know more....

does volunteer work really play a big role in the admissions process? In particular, does volunteer work play a big role in UC Davis admission process? I got a little nervous and have been looking into volunteer work the past few days. It's going to be rough on my income because I'm currently unemployed, but if I have to do it i'll do it!

Not gonna make a big difference, if at all.

What's your LSAT/UGPA? If you are above both of Davis' medians you'd be in regardless.

If you decide you want to put a nice soft on your resume, think about Legal Services of Northern California (assuming you are in the Sac area). I myself volunteered at a legal aid society and loved it, although this was after I moved to SF in September '08 hoping to work as a paralegal and the economy imploded, so it was that or sit at home. It's not necessary to starve yourself by getting volunteer work to get into law school.
