Resume Question

Post by LaacLaw » Mon Oct 18, 2010 10:57 pm

I apologize in advance for all my questions tonight but the search tool is down and I am somewhat confused. I am working on my resume to send to my professors, do you guys think it’s appropriate to put down that I held (currently holding) a beauty pageant title? I know it is not relevant to law but technically it is an award. Should I just leave it out? thanks

I don't see any harm in putting it in there posting pictures.

Seriously, I don't see any harm in putting it in. It's something that requires a great deal of work and dedication. Obviously, it should be below any academic achievements, but anything that shows a willingness to work hard and to dedicate oneself to a particular task is usually a good thing. Plus, it's something interesting to talk about.

Also, I have candy in my van.

I hate to be a debbie downer, but I'd leave it out.
I would not hire someone who put a lot of time into winning a beauty pageant. Seriously.

For what it's worth, I know several girls who won beauty pageants and have it on their resume. They made it into law school fine, and got legal jobs fine as well.

Well OP, don't listen to me. I'm often in the minority.
(I'm being serious, btw)

Right, that is why I am on the fence because pageant girls have a rep (that I don’t necessarily agree with) and most of them come off as dingbats yet it’s something I am proud of and I’ve worked really hard for it. However, I do not want someone to make any prejudgments about me without seeing what I’m capable of if that makes sense. Urgh decisions…decisions..

I would def make a judgment. Not that you are a dingbat, but regarding your interests/priorities...
Again, I'm prolly in the minority.

Pics, or GTFO!

I'd put it on. It adds to your diversity and shows dedication.
