How many LoRs?

I have four solid letters of recommendation, from professors in three different departments. Although I obviously can't read them, I suspect that they each add something positive and unique to my application. If a school will let me submit all four, should I?

For example, Harvard "recommends" two letters, but will accept up to four. Will I annoy the admissions officers or otherwise hurt my chances if I send all four in? What's the conventional wisdom on this?

I believe the conventional wisdom is to send only as many as they recommend. I've heard they don't like a file that's too thick and time consuming to read.

CW is to submit 3 and save one for waitlists.
