Especially if it's not on your dime? Does it open up any more doors?

If it is free then why not? If you are going to work in the private sector, a working knowledge of business backed by a degree will probably help you to get a good first job. Plus if you decide against working at a law firm, you have the MBA as an entry into the business world.
They are going to want to know why you did it though because to some it might look like you were undecided between degrees so you just got both and aren't committed.

Even if you don't pay for it, there is the opportunity cost of a year.

Depends. Where at? 3-year program or 4-year? What r ur post law school plans?
If its at an average-ish ranked school that requires u to stay n school an extra year, and/or ur just doin it for the heck of it, then no its not worth it at all. It can b an incredibly useful tool though if u have a specific plan/use for it.

ITE I think its more than worth it, law is a very restrictive profession and if you get and MBA you will have a better chance of moving on if things don't work out. ITE MBA's are more "employable" than lawyers. If I could do it all over again I would have went that route, I'd rather spend 5 mins in a business interview explaining why law isn't for me then be stuck in this sorry profession where your whole future is decided 5 weeks into your 2L year.

while I agree law is a pretty restricted field you are forgetting small-firms, in-house, boutique, and solo-practice(yeah I know shit-ton of prblms w/ this but it is an option).

I know only one person going straight from UG to MBA. 4.0 at a strong UG business school and a 760 GMAT. If you have numbers like that or better along with top UG business, then sure. Otherwise, gonna need WE, prestigious/interesting WE.
