Checking the "Disability" box

I'm wondering about the disability box on applications - is it generally thought of as for people that get disability checks, workers comp, etc.?

My sophomore year of undergrad I got t-boned by a dump truck and i've had a fucked up back ever since, i still take hydrocodone every day and all that, but i don't know if that would qualify. Furthermore, what do you guys think about how good or bad that would be on an application?

Much Thanks

I don't think a disability will help you unless you are able to write about it on your application in a meaningful way. I suspect (although I have no evidence) that checking the box is more to hook you up with disability services inside the university, so if you need accommodations for anything they can get work on getting that set up.
