Choosing LOR - out of UG 5 yrs, 2 yrs work-exp, then Masters

I got a bachelors in 2005, then worked for 2 years with legal firms doing patent work as a technology specialist, and then went to grad school and got a masters this year. Currently I'm interning with a patent attorney. I will be applying this cycle.

I can get an excellent recommendation from the 2005-2007 employer, but the consensus on TLS forums seems to be that a good academic LOR will trump an excellent work LOR. So I am not considering a work LOR. I want to avoid taking LORs from grad school, because I had a much better relation with Profs from my UG university. I know for sure that I will get an excellent UG LOR and another good UG LOR.

Is it fine that I provide two UG LORS having been out of UG for 5 years? Will the absence of grad school LORs and work LORs be taken as a negative given that I've been out of UG so long?

In your case I think submitting with 3 LORs is perfectly justified. Do the two from your UG as well as the best work one you end up with. Save any others in case of waitlisting.

Thanks for the quick reply! I've already asked my UG professors; I'll also get in touch with my ex-manager.
