169: no effect on sub 3.3 splitters?

Based on compiled wisdom from LSN and LSP as well as what people on TLS say, it seems as though for a splitter with a 3.0-3.3 GPA, a 169 does not open the door to any more schools than a 168 does. Sure, it will help secure some apps, but I find it interesting that one would need to break the 169 threshold to climb further up the rankings.

Example:

a 168 and a 3.2 will put you in the running for GW, WUSTL, BU and down. But then, trying to climb up the rankings from there, the next school that accepts splitters would be Cornell, and that seems to require a 170. With a 170, said splitters can then throw apps to UVA, Michigan, and Northwestern.

Anyone else find this gap kind of frustrating?

Splitter-friendly schools like WUSTL, Illinois, and Minnesota will take a 3.2 / 167, but as you said there's little extra benefit to higher scores until you hit a 170 for T14's.
