Do LORs have to be from Profs who taught you?

There is a professor who knows me well, but that's because I worked for the program that she directs. I'd really like to send a letter from her because she is also a Vice Provost. Will it hurt me that she never actually taught me (except for a course that trained me for the job I did)?.

LORs barely matter. Other than that you know the answer to this:
It would be preferable if you could get an LOR from someone who could attest to your academic ability.

No. Its advised that at least 2 of your letters come from an academic. Doesnt matter if its a professor, counselor, department chair, etc etc.
Also, LORs dont matter that much. Schools just want to make sure that at least 2 (in some cases 3) people think youre competent and not crazy. Focus on your grades and doing well on the LSAT (if you havent already done so).
Good luck!

And yet they continue to admit TLSers...
