So during my senior year of college, I threw a party. An awesome one, mind you. We received a complaint and was shut down by campus police. They came and left. We restarted the party. They came a second time and shut us down again. We restarted again. What can I say, everyone was drunk at this point. They came a third time and confiscated all our liquor. Party over.

So a month or so later, my apt mates and I had to go to a hearing with university officials. We went through what happened that night and promised to never do it again. They said it's cool and that we just couldn't throw another party again that semester (even with that, they let us throw like 3 more parties the next semester).
But they also said we should have to do community service. As I was working at the time for the school, my community service consisted of doing my job, having my boss sign it, and just not getting paid. It was like 5-10 hours or something very small. I think I also had to pay like a $20 fine to the school.

This is disciplinary action taken by the University, right? I assume when they ask this question, they are really looking for actions like getting suspended or the like, but I'm to disclose this too, right?

Similar question. I have an underage drinking violation from my sophomore year that led to doing a few hours of community service. How do I find out if that will show up when my dean sends them whatever, and should I disclose it?

So the consensus is talk to the dean? Dean or registrar? I would think the registrar would be the place, no?

You should disclose even if the information wouldn't be sent to the schools you are applying to. Law schools will not care and you don't want to risk any chance of character & fitness problems later. Don't lie.

I had a disciplinary thing my freshman year, it probably won't show up on any dean certifications but it's better to disclose it now. It took all of four sentences and law schools won't care.

Why don't you just disclose everything...

Being dishonest about an underage drinking charge is a whole lot worse than the charge itself.

Thanks guys - I always also give the advice - disclose disclose disclose, so it seems a simple answer.

But wanted to see if they considered it "disciplinary". May just disclose it anyways. It's not a big deal and dont think the law schools would care.

It's actually not an underage charge - We were all seniors - just a noise violation, which wouldnt have been a big deal if we didnt restart the party 3 times

That it was. After I left, I heard some of the younger guys at my school still reminisced about our "Riggs 22 (our apt number)" parties.

I can think of more than one school where this would make for a good diversity essay.

trudat and 2014 - both of these cases count as being formally charged/reprimanded/disciplined so you would need to disclose for schools that ask the question phrased in that way.

You would need to do this even if your record was expunged and your dean cert would say that you have "no disciplinary record."

disclose. either it won't show up on dean certs or if it does nobody will care. this will not hurt you at all.
